A comment serves as a window that can be placed anywhere on a page and linked to a particular element. When a comment is added, a dot is placed on the designated location, allowing easy access to it in the future.

Comments can be used for straightforward discussions, where users can provide notes or feedback related to a specific element on the page. However, comments can also serve as placeholders for more extensive collaboration related to a specific element.

Within the discussion tab of a comment, additional features can be added such as tasks, content requests, file attachments, feedback, formal approval, support requests, and more.

How The Startup Feature Works

Access The Startup Feature

To access the Comments feature, navigate to the admin bar located in the top right corner of your site. Within the admin bar, look for the Toolbox icon and click on it. This will open a menu where you can scroll or use the search function to locate the Comments menu item. Once you find it, click to open the Comments window. From this window, you will be able to view and manage existing comments, add new comments, show or hide comments, engage in discussions, and perform other related actions.

Add New Comments Anywhere

To add a new comment, you can click the “+ Comment” button in the admin bar or the “+ Add” button in the header of the Comments window. This will change your mouse cursor to a plus (+) icon. As you move the cursor around the page, you will notice that elements on the page are highlighted with an outline, indicating where you can place the comment. By clicking on the desired element, a dot will be placed, and a window will open where you can write your new comment.

View, Search, Filter, And Sort Comments

In the main Comments window, you will find a list of all existing comments on the site. Each comment is automatically labeled with a number for easy reference. Unread comments are shown in bold, making it convenient to identify new or unread comments that require your attention. You can adjust which comments appear in the list by using the search bar to find relevant comments based on specific keywords, sorting the list in ascending or descending order according to various parameters, and filtering comments that match certain criteria such as page location, added by, date added, or status.

Discuss Each Comment With Your Team Or Client

In the discussion tab of each individual comment, you have various options to interact and collaborate with others. The original comment will appear at the top, and additional comments can be added below. You can tag other users to notify them and bring their attention to the discussion. Text can be formatted using options like headings, bold, italic, underline, bullet points, number lists, links, and code to help organize and emphasize specific information.

The discussion tab also serves as an activity feed where any updates related to file attachments, assignments, status changes, requests, or any other action will be displayed in chronological order to help track the history and progress of the comment and effectively communicate with other users.

View Auto-Captured Meta Details

When a comment is placed, it automatically captures contextual meta details such as a screenshot, screen resolution, window size, zoom level, operating system, browser, CSS selector, and timestamp. These details provide valuable context to understand, identify, and replicate specific conditions when the comment was added. The screenshot provides a visual representation of the section, while screen resolution, window size, and zoom level offer insights into the device display at the time of the capture. The browser and operating system can help replicate issues, and the CSS selector can be used to locate the exact HTML element.

Can comment dots be hidden from the page?

You can choose to show or hide the comment dots on the page at any time by opening the Comments window and clicking the “eye” icon. This will hide the comments on the site for your own user. You can click the icon to show them again.

How do you close a comment?

Comments can be closed by clicking the checkbox icon in the Comments window header. This will hide the comment from the list, and hide the dot from the page. If you want to view the closed comment in the future, simply filter the list by Status > Closed.

Can comments be assigned to users?

Comments are just a placeholder tied to a specific location on a page. However, you can add and assign any other feature within the comment by clicking the “+ Add” button in the discussion tab. You can assign things such as tasks, content requests, feedback requests, approval requests, change request, or support requests, and they will be associated with the comment where they are added.
